Wda – easy section (Śluza – Wdzydze)

Section length: 35 km

The Wda River, along with the Brda River, is one of the most popular rivers in all of Poland. The river stretch from the village of Śluza to Wdzydze is easy. At the beginning, to Lipusz, the river is narrow (3-4m), often shallow, it is necessary to tow your kayak, and there are several portages on the route. It flows through lakes Wieckie, Fiszewo and Lubiszewskie, giving a moment of rest from the challenges encountered. From Lipusz on, it is more interesting, with few obstacles on the route, such as fallen trees in places, which do not pose any major difficulties. After passing Lipusz, the river flows under a concrete bridge on the Kościerzyna – Chojnice road (235). The current is stronger. The trip is hindered by protruding piles and stones. The Wda River flows into the Wdzydze Landscape Park. To Lake Schodno, the river flows alternately in forest and meadow sections. Lake Schodno itself is of a ribbon type; you have to paddle for 2 km with possible shallows at the beginning. At the end of the lake, in the forest, a campsite has been arranged on the sandy shore. The lake narrows further and turns into a fast flowing river. On the left, the Trzebiocha River flows in. Down to Czarlina, the river flows quickly over a rocky bed. The land is wooded. Further on, the river flows into Lake Radolne. After about 2 km paddling along the shore, you reach Wdzydze Kiszewskie – the centre of kayaking. There are four lakes joining at the village. These are Radolne to the west, Jeleń to the north, Gołuń to the east and Wdzydze to the south, forming the so-called “Kashubian Sea”. In the village it is worth visiting the Museum – Kashubian Ethnographic Park.
