Brda – easy section (Męcikał – Rytel – Woziwoda)

Section length: 41 km

Initially, the Brda forms a wide backwater with a rather peaceful current. You will have to do some paddling. The kayak marina is your starting point. You pass a road bridge. The trip is continued through Lake Zapora. It is an artificial waterbody which was formed as a result of the construction of the hydroelectric power station in Mylof. On the way, you can see noticeable damage (tree stands) after the violent storm of 2017. The route runs across the epicentre of the havoc cause by the gale. Most of the area was tidied up, hence open spaces can be seen in places. You reach Mylof and a dam where there is a 200 m portage. To facilitate it, you can rent a cart in the nearby forest manager office. The dam marks the end of the stretch of lakes, which are arduous in places, in the middle section of the Brda. In Mylof, the Great Brda Canal begins. It is an alternative to the Brda route which is especially recommended for kayaking trips with children, as it is not deeper than 1-1.5 metre and the current is practically unnoticeable. Downstream of the dam,  the Brda speeds up and there are rapids under the railway bridge before Rytel. You reach Rytel, which is an important stage point for many kayaking trips. Past Rytel, the river flows into forest areas. The river is narrower, meanders and forms a small gorge. On the way, several well-arranged campsites. You paddle into the Tucholski Landscape Park and the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship. Downstream of the road bridge in Nadolna Karczma, there is the mouth of the Raciąska Struga stream and then the mouth of the Czerska Struga stream on the left. The river current speeds up and many trees obstruct the way. You reach Woziwoda with its well-arranged campsite.
