Radunia – easy section (Ostrzyce – Kiełpino/Trątkownica)

Section length: 14 km

The Radunia River stretch from Ostrzyce to Kiełpino is very scenic. It is easy, non-strenuous and features no obstacles. It is a perfect choice for each kayaker who loves nature and silence. On this river stretch, you can find numerous kayaking marinas where you can rest and take a break from paddling. You leave Lake Ostrzyckie; there are a weir and a portage on the way. The kayak can be launched upon permission of the owner. 300 metres further, you go under a bridge with rapids. Watch out for piles crossing the riverbed and rocks. At this place, kayakers happen to capsize. This is also an alternative starting point for trips down the Radunia River. On its way to Goręczyno, the river crosses a fairly straight, wide valley, in places separating forests from fields. There are shallows and erratic boulders in the riverbed. You paddle across Lake Trzebno to reach a portage over a ruined threshold at the Radunia outflow from the lake. Further on, the route is even wider and the riverbed becomes slimy. The river meanders faster and faster through marshy meadows and is slightly overgrown with nearby bushes and trees. You pass under the road bridge in Goręczyno (rapids) and reach Somonino. Then you go under a road bridge, footbridge, two railway bridges (one of them closed) and another road bridge. At the latter one, a slightly faster stretch of the river begins. Now, the route passes through woodland with some trees in the riverbed, but not causing any serious difficulties, and shallows in places. You reach a section running across fields and meadows. After passing a footbridge, you arrive in Trątkownica (Kiełpino). Further on, the river flows into a 20-30-metres deep forest ravine. After 2 km, you reach the Jar Raduni Nature Reserve. This section has been excluded from kayaking trips for a few years now.
