Kayaking attractions

1. Nowy Staw. A small town established during the Middle Ages. It includes a small rectangular square with two historical churches (a gothic parish church and an old evangelical church which soaring tower is referred to as the “pencil”), historical production plants, and arcade houses.
2. Nowy Dwór Gdański. The current capital of Żuławy Wiślane. A district city including many monuments and the remarkably interesting Żuławski Park Historyczny located near the river. The city’s attraction consists also in footbridges and a drawbridge on Tuga.
3. Żelichowo-Cyganek. Apart from an old Mennonite cemetery, lapidarium, and a historical church (currently used as an Orthodox church) it is possible to see a reconstructed arcade house – one of the very few such buildings in Żuławy.
4. Tujsk. A village in Żuławy in which a large river port was once located due to the nearby connection of Linawa and Tuga with Szkarpawa, and the closeness of one of Zalew Wiślany’s bays.

Tuga and Święta (Wielka and Mała in its upper stream) once constituted one of the many mouth distributaries of Wisła. The rivers go through the very heart of Żuławy Wiślane. Kayaking down them allows to discover and understand the remarkable land, once torn out of water, which has its own peculiar charm and mystery.

The Tuga and Święta trail is meandered, wide, calm, and remarkably picturesque. It is rich in wild corners, locations suitable for camping, as well as monuments of architecture and technique. At the trail it is worth to stop in Tujsk, Stobiec, and Żelichów, as well as explore the monuments of Nowy Dwór Gdański and Nowy Staw. The starting point may consist in Rybina, Tujsk, Nowy Dwór Gdański, or Nowy Staw. The river’s slow current allows to travel in both directions. In the second half of summer Tuga may be overgrown with floating fern – a protected plant, which makes it significantly difficult to kayak across the river.
