Tuga – easy route (Nowy Staw – Rybina)

Section length: 25 km

The recommended kayaking route starts at Nowy Staw and ends in Rybina (26 km, including 1 km on the Szkarpawa River). The Tuga-and-Święta River flows through the heart of Żuławy Wiślane. The route is easy and incredibly scenic. As the current is slow, you can paddle in both directions. However, kayakers must be ready for numerous river bends. Some problem on the route is the protected water fern Salvinia. It appears in the summer season on the stretch to Nowy Dwór Gdański and causes the kayak to slow down. The river crosses two towns: Nowy Dwór Gdański and the historic Nowy Staw. Along the route one can also see traces of Mennonite settlements, namely arcade houses in Marynowy, Cyganek or Tujsk.

The trip can take up to one day. The river is navigable from Nowy Staw. The route widens gradually and from Nowy Dwór Gdański it is accessible to larger vessels (motor boats, yachts). The banks are mostly overgrown with reed, while from Nowy Dwór Gdański there are more riverside trees, forming a typical landscape of Żuławy.
